Name and blessing

In a little while, due to council of the doctor, Brian and his ward bishop are going to give Lexey a blessing. This will get her name on the records of the church just in case anything happens.

Today was rough, the doctor woke up Brian and Kim this morning at 2:00AM and said that things were not looking good. Lexey had very low blood sugar. Later in the morning this had resolved and the doctor said that if she makes it through the weekend her survival rate will increase. She is a fighter! I went in to see her with Brian yesterday and I heard her cry. I told the nurse that I never thought I would feel so happy to hear a baby cry. Oh and I forgot to mention that Lexey has jondus as well and is under a light. They cover her eyes with a mask that has sunglasses printed on one side. They are adorable. And oh man you should see her diapers! They are too small for a doll! Brian and Kim got one for her scrapbook. Kim has been released from the hospital, but this weekend they get to have a room there to stay without being served and be with Lexey. The doctor said this because then they will be there in case anything happens. We ask for the faith of our family and friends to be with Lexey and Brian and Kim as they face this challenge together.

The bad thing that happened today is that Lexey's veins collapsed in her arms and the doctors had to find one in her stomach through the naval to continue giving her her medicine and blood platelets. Kim is feeling much better today and even walked to see Lexey. Today Lexey continued to use the c-pak and is doing well. She even sucked on a pacifier! She loves to have it dipped in glucose water first (she is going to have a sweet tooth like her mom).

On Thursday the NICU doctor came to say that Lexie is very sick. They had been giving her antibiotics and started giving her red blood cell platelets. The doctor was unsure if it is because Lexey was in distress for so long in the womb, or if she caught something after birth. Later that day I (Sarah) got to go see Lexey and the doctor was in therewith her. He said her condition had improved. When she was born they had put her on a ventilator. She had taken some breaths on her own, but the ventilator would ensure her lungs would stay inflated. Well that evening the doctor removed the ventilator and put in a c-pack, which is like the nasal oxygen tubes in her nose that give a constant stream of oxygen. This is to help develop her lungs and the longer she is able to remain on it the better. PS she is still on it. The doctor (Dr. Jensen) said that if Lexey makes it to Tuesday they will have a better idea of what they are up against.

Lexey Christine Martin

TO those who may not know yet; Brian and Kimberly Martin have had their baby. She was born May 14, 2008 at 4:08 PM. Kim had an emergency ceasection. She had not been sleeping and had a constant stomach pain and so she went into the doctor. They found calcium in her urine and she had high blood pressure. The doctor told her that she needed to get to the hospital immediately. Kim was only 28 weeks along. After a struggle, Lexey was born. The doctor had to give her heart compressions. Brian, Kim's dad Darrell and I (Sarah) got to go into the NICU and see the baby as they were hooking her to the machines and getting her into the incubator. The doctors worked on KIm some more and we were left waiting to hear about her. Dr. Leavitt came out and told us that Kim had toximia and preclampsia and that Lexey had been in distress. Kim came out of surgery drowsy but okay. The doctors warned the family that everyday would be a struggle and there would be good and bad news all the time. This all happened on Wednesday.
