Well, Lexey's blood sugar was high last night and so Brian and Kim did not get to do the skin to skin time. However Kim and I went to a NICU parent meeting. It is for the parents of the babies in the NICU. It is like a support group that meets once a week (twice if you count their scrapbook day). It gives the parents a chance to talk with each other about the difficulties they face. Brian had to work late, but Kim liked it and wants him to go with her next week. The nurse last night told Kim that they will wait awhile to do the skin to skin, but Kim is going to ask the doctor when she sees him. Right now Lexey weighs 705 grams (did not convert but less than 1 lb 8oz), but that is not a concern. She gets breast milk through a gavage (like a tube that is inserted in her mouth to her stomach). She gets 1 ml every 3 hours. It is such a little amount, but she seems to be doing great with it. Through her IV Lex is getting potassium, sugar, salt, and magnesium. They have to do blood cultures every day to measure the levels of those nutrients. She is also getting fats through the IV as well to help her grow. And of course her antibiotics. Through the nasal cannula (tubes that go in her nose) she gets 25% oxygen, the rest she is getting by herself. She is doing really well for how early she is. This morning Kim said that she had the hiccups. When I went to see her she sneezed. It was adorable! Her whole body convulsed and you could hardly hear it, but of so cute. Kim got to change another diaper. I am going to up load a picture of her diaper. Just so all of you readers are aware, this blog writer is going out of town for the weekend. Brian will be updating through the comments sections, so keep an eye out. If you see a new post before Monday, that means something has happened and we have come home in a hurry. Thank you for your prayers and support again, we really can't get enough. Remember to watch the comments for the updates.

Kim I am so happy for you and your husband. I had no idea that you were even pregnant. Stay strong, I know what you guys are going through, I had Tate at 31wks. I know that it is a struggle everyday to see her and not be able to do more with her and for her. She is beutiful!! When Tate was in the hospital there was a little boy born at 21 or 22wks, He is doing great today at 2yrs old. So far he has no health problems and seems to be a normal 2 year old. If you ever have questions or just want to talk I would love to hear from you! Mandy Marshall

May 22, 2008 Update on Lexey
Hello! The reason why her blood sugar was up so high is because they gave her to much medicine. Got results back from the UltraSound on Lexey's brain as they found no blood in her head. They did find a cist and in about 3to 4 weeks they will do a Cat Scan check it out then. They have told us that the cist has probably been there about a month ago so it had nothing to do with the birth. Grandpa & Grandma Chandler came to see baby Lexey and Grandma called Lexey a peanut. So now some of the nurses call Lexey peanut and that is her nickname now as does Grandma which is so cute. Kim got to hold Lexey skin to skin they told Kim she could hold her for 5 min. but they let Kim hold her for about a hour and 15 min. Lexey sure loved being close to her mom and Lexey's oxygen level was around 98 to 100. Kim was also enjoy bonding with her daughter. Brian also got to hold his daughter for about 45 min. with skin to skin and love bonding wiht her dad. Later duing the night after he changed her diaper a couple of times. Lexey sure loves being close to her Mom and Dad and Lexeys oxygen level goes up after we have held her.
Love, Brian & Kimbely Martin
I will keep her and you both in our prayers.

May 24th, 2008 update on Lexey
Well Lexey had low oxygen which caused her heart rate to drop for 20 seconds. Also her belly was bloated and had bowl rings in her belly. So, we did not get to hold her. We did change her diaper and checked her temp. We spent good quality time with her.
Love Always, Brian & Kimbely Martin
